The Things That Kill Us Most:

AATD for safety training and currency. Located in Fishers Indiana.

An aviation safety, risk management, and accident prevention program:

Have you ever wondered why the airline accident/fatality rate it so much lower than that of General Aviation?  Are they better pilots?  Maybe. Are they more experienced?  Sometimes.  Is their equipment better?  Possibly.  Do they train differently than GA pilots?  Absolutely!  Also, airline pilots don't go through training only once every 24 calendar months!

We have to lower the GA accident/fatality rate.  We are going to do that by being better pilots, gaining more experience, and training like those that fly the big iron.  And we are going to have a lot of fun doing it!  Marker Inbound's "The Things That Kill Us Most" program is a good first step.

so, What is "the things that kills us most" program?

The Things That Kill Us Most looks at the accidents that are killing general aviation pilots and incorporates them into a set of lessons customized to YOUR type of flying.  Using our state-of-the-art AATD, the pilot is immersed into real-world scenario-based training that requires solid Aeronautical Decision-Making skills (including Risk Management) and will include abnormals.

The Things That Kill Us Most is NOT an FAA program.  It's us, as flight instructors and pilots trying to change the way we train to reduce the fatality rate before the government steps in and does it for us!

The good news?  These AATD sessions ARE NOT PASS OR FAIL!  It's ALL education and training and gets logged in your logbook as such.  And we don't charge more for fancier aircraft.  Want to fly a Barron 58 or Seminole?  Your program is the same price as a Cessna 172!

Another great benefit of the program is the time can be logged as Aeronautical Experience toward your Instrument rating and Commercial or ATP certificates.  Wings credit is also available.

Do we really want the government to move in and TELL us what must be done?  We are better than that.  We can reduce the GA accident/fatality rate without further regulation.  But further regulation may be on the horizon if we don't improve.  Then you will see how expensive mandated training can be!

Fatal Accident Statistics:

Here we see a direct comparison of airline flying (Part 121), Charter flying (Part 135), and General Aviation flying.  (Part 91) Almost 79% of all accidents involve General Aviation Flying!  We MUST reduce this accident rate.

Fatalities by Type of Operation:

Here is another eye-opening statistic:  The 173 airline deaths (Part 121) compared to almost 9000 General Aviation deaths during the same time period, 2002 to 2021.

General Accident causes:

While Mechanical issues make up 17% of fixed wing accidents, pilot error related accidents make up a whopping 69%!  We are killing ourselves!  It is usually not our equipment.

Specific Causes of Accidents & Fatalities:

Notice the cause of the most General Aviation fatalities (Purple) is loss of control in flight, followed by power plant failure, controlled flight into terrain (CFIT), and unintended flight into VMC.  While there are way more "abnormal runway contact" accidents than CFIT accidents, CFIT results in more fatalities.

The Things That Kill Us Most program is designed to realistically simulate some of the deadly situations we find ourselves in as pilots.  Using risk management skills and aeronautical decision making, participants will learn to identify and mitigate risks and errors that often prove fatal to General Aviation pilots.
